Fashion Friday

Ok, so you would think that my love for my iPhone and my love for this blog would have had me looking for some kind of blogging app long before today.

But alas, I am imperfect (first and last time you'll hear me say that) and just looked today.

Readers! There are blogging apps. I can take a picture of my dinner and post it here within a few minutes. Who needs laptops?

And you do want to see pictures of my meals, right? I think what other people eat is fascinating, and if you don't then just try and figure out who invented/likes pickled eggs and you will become a fascinated person too.

I digress.

I haven't eaten yet today so here's a picture of my outfit because it's cute and I like it.

Friday

Nothing too fancy by any means. Skinny jeans, brown flats, a maroon dress that I bunched up and wore as a blouse, my mustard yellow cardigan and a braided belt.

Alright I think I've milked this post for all it's worth. Hats off to me for finally discovering a blogging app!

Through The Stress, These 3 Remain:

With only one semester left before I apply for the college of nursing, things are definitely getting harder. I feel like I’m constantly learning about tissues, drawing line structures or thinking about my geriatric rotation this month.

And then there is my spiritual life, which should surpass all other things but is usually the thing being sacrificed the most.

In these busy times, I have found peace in a few different places.

1. “Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing”
     –Sufjan Stevens

2. Isaiah 54:10

Though the mountains be shaken
   and the hills be removed,
yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken
nor my covenant of peace be removed,”
says the LORD, who has compassion on you.

3. My sweet friends

God has seriously blessed me. I have amazing friends at school and at home and I love them so much! But my friends at school have become my family, and well, they put up with parts of me that other people wouldn’t.

What brings you peace?

Wrapping Up The Weekend (with a bow on top!)

This weekend swept me into a whirlwind of good conversation, good food and good friends.

Friday I went to a youth conference and then out for delicious thick crust Hawaiian pizza.

 weekend3

On Saturday night the girls and I decided to go to Little Rock for dinner. We now refer to that trip as the Little Rock Fail of ‘11 because well, we got lost about 10 times (literally) trying to find Buffalo Wild Wings.

 weekend4weekend2

Today we baked Forgotten Kisses and watched Away We Go. It was a great Sunday until we had to take my roommate to the emergency room.

She’s ok now.

And we had fun with all the hospital equipment.

On a deeper level, on Friday before going to the youth conference, I attended the funeral of a girl I went to high school with. Her family could desperately use prayers. It’s going to be a continuous struggle.

It’s Beginning to Look A lot Like Utah

I woke up to rain.

Freezing cold rain.

It started snowing when I hopped in the shower and by the time I had finished my first (and only) class for the day, it looked like this:

A winter wonderland!

Then I checked my mail and found the necklace I ordered on Etsy.

I know, you want it.

But it was custom made, so HA!

My love for Utah is getting out of hand.

See Autumn.

See Autumn pose.

 See Autumn write.

See Autumn stop.

(The posing and the writing.)

(No, not forever. Just for tonight. You think I would quit gracing you readers with my wonderful face and witty words?)

(Especially my reader from Spain (Hola!))

(You think I’m kidding. I’m not. I have a reader in Spain.)

(Next stop: Iceland.)

(Do they have computers there?)

Yarn Wreath

I’ve decided to drop out of college and go into the yarn wreath making business.

Just kidding, wrapping these blasted wreaths in yarn took me over three hours and left me with yarn burn on my fingers and an ache in my lower back.

But boy I’m crafty and I couldn’t resist.

My flowers aren’t the best but hey, I am the farthest thing from a perfectionist.

(Note the background junk.)

The girls and I felt like old ladies sitting at the kitchen table last night wrapping yarn around the wreaths. It was fun, though, and I can’t wait to hang it on my dorm room door!

And! I can now cross #2 off of my 21 Before 21 list!

What do you think? Have you made one?

POST EDIT: The lighting is making the yarn look purple, but it's actually gray :)

Oh The Weather Outside Is Frightful

Snow! Snow! Snow!

snow

Admittedly, snow is cool for about one day.

Then it gets slushy and dirty and I’m so done that you could stick a toothpick in me and it would come out clean.

But anyway, it’s still the first day so right now my attitude is:

SNOW!

Dancing Queen

panama

It started with a grand plan to go out dancing.

And since most of my nights consist of watching television in my sweatpants and eating oranges, I agreed. Hesitantly.

It’s not that I didn’t want to go. Oh no, I wanted to go into the Little Rock night life and listen to music so loud that my head pounded and have slight seizures from the flashing neon colored lights.

Here’s why I was left a quivering and nervous wreck on the way to my state’s capital city: I cannot dance.

It’s cute really, how terrible I am.

Another endearing quality of mine.

1 a.m. found me at a hip joint in the city with my close friends.

I was decked out in my new skinny jeans, a gray frilly top and sling-back metallic heels.

Oh yes, I had arrived.

We weaved through the thick cloud of smoke and people and hit the dance floor.

The music was blaring and the base was vibrating my feet.

And so I did what I always do:

Bobbed my head. Framed my face. The Shopping Cart.

Classic moves of mine. (They require little rhythm.)

Soon the music was moving through me and I was like a noodle being twirled onto a fork.

Twist and swirl, swirl and twist.

(If you aren’t ‘Following’ me after that analogy then I bid you good day.)

I threw in a fist pump for good measure,

flipped my hair for attitude,

and then I found a table and sat down because did you forget?

I was wearing heels.

Do These Pants Make My Butt Look Big?

jeggingsThat’s not my butt. I have a strict rule against posting a picture of my butt on the internet. This girl doesn’t.

Let’s talk about pants, baby.

Actually, let’s talk about jeggings.

Are they pants? Are they leggings? Are they jeans? (Are these all the same thing?)

When these tight denim concoctions entered retail stores, I crossed-my-heart-and-hoped-to-die that I would never, ever own a pair.

Disgusting may have been muttered under my breath.

Let’s be honest, they can be so unflattering. And I don’t want to see your thighs squeezed into denim look-alike fabric.

For months I swore them off.

Then they started gaining popularity, especially at school.

Girls would have on jeggings, oversized t-shirts and boots.

And in the spirit of honesty (4 lines above), I like to be in the fashion loop. If that girl is wearing it, I should be too.

(If it’s cute.)

So yesterday, against my better judgment, I tried on a pair of denim look-alike jeggings.

And oh butter melting off pancakes, they were amazing!

Could I buy 10 pair? Sleep in them, run in them, go to school WITH BOOTS ON in them?

Let’s not forget the oversized t-shirt.

It would be like wearing pajamas all day and I ask you, is there anything better?

I decided not to buy them and went with the old “If I’m still thinking about them tomorrow I’ll come back and buy them.”

Which I did. Think about them today.

Jeggings here I come!

Besides, if Conan can wear them, so can I.

What’s your opinion on jeggings? Love them? Hate them? Convert?

Junque Queen

7

I love antiques. A quality passed down for generations in my family, it seems.

Today on a mission to find myself some suede boots, Emma and I passed a lovely antique store and I whipped into the nearest parking lot.

It was full of so many things I need!

I need those retro white cups. I do! I do!

Tell me otherwise. I dare you.

4

We also stumbled upon vintage paper!

Oh the things I could do with the paper.

I was thinking frame them and hang them above my retro couch (theoretically speaking of course, because I live in a dorm room and I don’t have room for a couch) and change the paper as the seasons/holidays change.

23 1

That Valentine’s Day paper is totally boss.

Scottish Autumn, age 5

Today I sent this gem to my friends via text.

Here lies their responses:

Oh, and I blocked out previous texting conversation.

Because, well, you really didn’t need to read it.

Lest you judge me.

 Here lies this post.

Happy Blogiversary!

cupcake

My official 1 Year Blogiversary is today and there are cupcakes for your virtual enjoyment.

Because I know the only reason you read my blog is for the cupcakes.

Anyway, here are the top 2 posts of the year! Think of these joyous reads as sprinkles on top of that cupcake of yours.

They are that good. (Did I mention a New Year’s Resolution of mine is modesty? I seem to be tapped out.)

Ok, I’m getting carried away.

Most Viewed Post of 2010:

Steel Magnolias
(This seems like a random most viewed post, no?)

Personal Favorite Post of 2010:

Hiking, and a Personal Revelation
(Because I’m all about the revelations)

That’s all, kids.

Wait! Here’s your cupcake.

Enjoy.
