Blessings In Surprising Places.

elder
Lately, God has been opening my eyes and moving me in directions I never thought possible.

For one of my pre-nursing classes, I have to do 12 hours of elder care volunteer work, 12 hours of preschool volunteer work, and 12 hours of school-age children volunteer work.

I am so excited to work with the kids. I love the tiny people so much! Elder care? Oh boy. That was about 20 miles outside of my comfort zone.

And of course, I was assigned to have my first rotation in elder care. I put it off until this week—the week before it is due—to actually volunteer.

I was so very wrong in doing that. I absolutely LOVED my time at the retirement home I went to. The members there have such sweet souls and brought so much joy to my day!

I remember sitting at a table with two women and thinking, “this is where I should come when I’m not having a good day.”

From now on, I won’t be afraid to step outside of my comfort zone.

What a blessing this elder care rotation has been in my life!

  1. I'm glad you were able to get out of your comfort zone a bit. I've definitely been working on that as well...it's amazing what God can do no matter how comfortable we feel. Good luck with your other rotations!

  2. Isn't it beautiful how God chooses to bless us in the most unexpected of ways? Get ready for lots more experiences like this as you step into nursing school! Seriously, there have been so many times where I have gone home from clinical and cried at the beauty and pain that I've been able to be part of... it will change you!

  4. I had a similar experience when I started my clinicals last semester at the nursing home. I was dreading having to start with older adults, but I absolutely LOVED it. The residents never failed to put a smile on my face & I am so glad I was blessed enough to realize this!
