Party In Your Mouth

A big hello to all you Al's Narratives readers!
My name is Jarah. I am a mountain-loving, chaco-wearing girl from Utah and the writer behind Bright Red Cords.

Autumn and I have been blog buddies for awhile now and I was thrilled when she asked me to write a guest post! Since it is summer and all, I thought I would share with y'all one of my favorite summer camping traditions... orange cakes! A camping trip is simply not complete without these delicious treats. Make sure to give them a try on your next outdoor adventure!

Step 1: Gather Ingredients
j4
Here's what you'll need:
1 box of cake mix (I am crazy about Funfetti, but you can use whatever you'd like)
3 large eggs
1/3 cup oil
1 cup water
up to 10 oranges
Supplies: knife, cutting board, bowl, whisk, aluminum foil

Step 2: Prepare the Oranges

Slice off the tops off of the oranges (make sure to set aside for later)...
j5
and remove the orange pulp with a spoon
j6
You can discard the pulp or save it for a snack later on.
*Warning: This is a very messy process! I always try to wear sunglasses so I don't get O.J. in my eye*

Step 3: Prepare & Pour the Batter

Prepare the cake batter by combining the cake mix, eggs, oil & water...
then pour or spoon the mixture into the oranges until they are about 3/4 full
j2
You can discard the extra batter if you're making less than 10 cakes, or sit around and eat it while your waiting (my prefered option, of course!)

Step 4: Cover with Foil

Place the tops back on the oranges and cover with a single sheet of Aluminum Foil
j3

Step 5: Cook your Cakes

Place the cakes directly in the fire and cook for 20(ish) minutes.
j1
I have found that it's best to put the cakes near some good hot coals and to rotate them once or twice.

Make sure to check that they are fully cooked, and then get ready for a party in your mouth...

Step 6: Enjoy!
And that's all there is to it, folks! I would love to hear if any of you try this tasty recipe!
Stop on over to my blog and say hey if you get a chance! Thanks for letting me join you today!

xoxo, Jarah

I am Al and why have I never heard of these?!
