Ring Ceremonies!

ring4

Let me let you in on a Harding University (the “marriage factory”) ritual: ring ceremonies.

Engagements are a big deal at Harding. As is marriage. (Christian university, woo woo!)

So whenever a girl who is in a social club (private school version of a sorority) gets engaged, they send out a group message that usually reads: “RING CEREMONY tonight!”

And everyone freaks and starts trying to figure out who it is.

At the ring ceremony, girls stand in a circle and sing a song while they pass around a candle that has the ring on it. Everyone gets to admire the beautiful ring, and when the candle is passed to the engaged girl, she blows it out.

Then her blushing fiancé comes out and they tell their story.

Girls eat it up.

I have had three friends get engaged within two weeks of being back at school. And it’s wonderful! But THIS DOESN’T HAPPEN AT OTHER SCHOOLS.

It’s great to be at Harding!

  4. I love candlelights!! I went to The University of Alabama and all of the sororities do them there, too. We also sing songs at the wedding...and even do a special candlelight if the girls got engaged after college and didn't get one while they were an active. So fun! Thanks for sharing how y'all do them at your school!
