You know, people are so sweet. I had the most wonderful birthday and let me tell you why. Wednesday night I walked into my off-campus house that I share with six girls—imagine the closet shopping!—and it smelled like warm red velvet cake, my favorite. My roommate topped it with cream cheese icing and let me tell you, it’s never too late at night to eat cake. Even midnight.
At midnight, a flood of well wishing text messages appeared on my phone. I fell asleep smiling.
The day was great. My roommate and I ditched Bible class (whoops?) and went to lunch, where I slurped on chicken tortilla soup and was gifted a free dessert. It was a warm 75 degrees, so after class I grabbed my Kayla for an outing to Goodwill where I bought myself a birthday present. Yes, I’m one of those people who believes in buying myself birthday presents so help me. It was a wonderfully round ceramic wall hanging of an Indian.
Kayla bought me a large vanilla Coke Zero from Sonic and gave me two envelopes of handwritten endearments. What is better than handwritten, I ask you?
My brother drove into town and surprised me with a shiny black iPhone 5. Then he took me out to dinner at a local grill and I enjoyed blackened chicken and mashed potatoes—with the skins, please. So yes, Brother of the Year award.
The rest of the night was spent with my social club (it was Pledge Week after all) and it was joyous.
I am not usually huge on birthdays, but this one was an exception. Friends and family made me feel loved and special all day. Tonight, they even threw me a late party with Mexican food and pumpkin pie.
22 is sure to be wonderful with these people by my side.
What a great birthday and thoughtful friends and family! Happy Birthday!
