I love my job. I get to play mother for four short hours every afternoon. I blow noses, wipe up messes, kiss dirty cheeks. I play in the rocks, push them to outer space on the swing set, enter into their make-believe world of zombies, Barbies, and talking cows.
I hold the Boo-Boo Bear on their knees when they scrape them, set up their afternoon snack, and read "The Foot Book" by Dr. Seuss like a CD player on repeat. Left foot, left foot, left foot, right. Over and over.
I inhale their germs and get sick myself, like today, with a low-grade fever and a runny nose, but it's worth it.
Because every afternoon when I open the door to my class, their heads pop up from their naptime cots and they shriek, "MISS AUTUMN!!!"
And it's the sweetest part of my every day.
ohhhh my goodness. so precious.
ReplyDeleteand you are darling.
gosh, this. this is absolutely precious :)
ReplyDeleteI just *just* discovered your blog and I'm just going to warn you, I'll probably leave you a few comments on your posts. Hopefully that doesn't come across as too awkward...
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I teach Sunday School, babysit, and help out at a preschool and definitely know (and love!) that feeling when kids shriek your name. I recently returned to the preschool I interned at and loved being recognized by the kids and their families. Can't wait to read more of your blog!
Oh, and three cheers for kids helping build your immune system! They take the phrase "sharing is caring" to a whole new level, don't they? :)
This is so cute! I love kids (: I'll take your job when you graduate! haha When little ids say your name it is the most precious thing in the world. I'm like "whats my name?" "say it again" haha.
