I’ve fallen ill, so I’ve taken to eating cold cereal
in bed—-strawberry frosted shredded wheat—-and watching
cable documentaries.
On right now is “The Mormon Candidate.”
AND since all of America is talking about this, WHY NOT MY BLOG?
Does Mitt Romney’s Mormon religion discourage you from voting for him,
encourage you, or are you apathetic to the issue?
Please discuss in the comments,
lest I get bored to death in my bed.
to be honest, it doesn't really bother me! i do like that he's socially conservative and i know being mormon plays a lot into that. as for economics and foreign policy, etc., i don't really think being mormon has anything to do with it, so i don't think it's going to influence him terribly one way or another.
ReplyDeletei should probably add that i would almost be prepared to vote a communist for president if s/he can balance a budget... so there's that, haha. that's the biggest thing, in my opinion, in romney's favor.
DeleteI feel it is sad that the media can label Romney for being Mormon and talk constantly about it. If the media did the same thing for Obama being African American it would be considered racist and very close-minded.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I love that you have a whole tag dedicated to loving Mormons and I found myself reading all of them. I just wanted to say thank you for being so uplifting. My husband and I just relocated back to the south and I would say the majority of people cringe when I answer the "where did you just move from?" with Utah because the implication that we are LDS...which we are.
DeleteI grew apart from a lot of my friends from other religions from high school because of the distance thing and because we all ended up getting married, but I really loved them and how we were able to help each other with our own testimonies even being from different churches.
I have to agree with you! I think it's more of a tactic to scrutinize the religion. Which sadly happens everyday.
DeletePersonally I don't really care about this election. Although I feel this way, I would probably vote for him because of his LDS background. Pretty stereotypical because 1) I am too am LDS and 2) a true LDS person is a VERY strong individual through and through.
For proof of that look at all the Mormons in the south. Living their religious beliefs and Christian values not only on Sunday but everyday of the week. More Christian than all the bible thumpers who bash them for not being a Christian. Seems to make sense for a leader to a strong person doesn't it?
The sad thing is...most Mormon's are better people than most Christians nowadays. I have mormon friends who are loving, good values, the list is endless. Obviously the ideal option would be to have a Christian man leading our country, but Romney at least states his morals publicly, while Obama is trying to take God out of the equation altogether. Its a touchy subject, but I'd say its obvious that he is the best option right now.
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I have discussed this at length! We are Catholic. Mitt Romney is LDS and Barack Obama comes from a faction of Protestant. So either candidate will have a "different" religion than we. But that's no matter to us. We feel more inclined to vote for a candidate based on his stance on the issues.
ReplyDeleteThis will definitely be an exciting election!!
