I’m learning consequences as of late. The first lesson and consequence has left a bitter taste in my mouth. I decided to skip class one day—of course pop quiz day, because that’s how my “luck” goes. I was never allowed to make the 50 points up, and it dropped my final grade in the class to a ‘B.’ A ‘B.’ A freaking ‘B.’ Because of one quiz. (I may be learning consequences but no one said I was happy about it.)
And the second lesson and consequence, OH THE SECOND. It’s entirely my fault, I accept it. But I will sulk and be frustrated because the learning of maturity hasn’t come yet. I got pulled over today. 46 in a 30. (Talk about RECKLESS driving!)
He wrote me a “citation,” I said, “Do I have to pay anything?” thinking a “citation” was a warning, and apparently a “citation” is a ticket. Why the confusion, police officers? CALL IT WHAT IT IS. Anyway, I also have to appear in court like some kind of hard criminal. I just…I just cannot.
I have learned to only skip class when I know we aren’t going to be quizzed, and to watcher close for cops. Ohh just kidding. (wink)
Tell me, have you gotten one of these “citations” before? And court? Why court?!
(And is there some sort of student discount? I should’ve asked. Next time.)
oh man, the first (and only) ticket.
ReplyDeleteI got mine in a school zone that had about 10 minutes left of being a school zone (aka the cop told me after he pulled me over that they just turned off the flashing school zone lights that were apparently there). I had NO idea I was being pulled over, there was a cop standing on the side of the road waving his hand and I thought he was directing me on a re-route or something. uh, nope. he was "pulling me over." cop on foot? nope. his car was apparently nearby. I hadn't ever been to this area before, AND I didn't even see the school zone signs (which were 'when children are present' signs)/lights AND I didn't have my license. he waved the no-license fee and dropped the original cost of the ticket, but I got a citation for going 32mph (under the posted 35mph speed limit) in a school zone. I feel like he would have waved the whole thing (because I was about ready to burst into tears and I've never had anything ever happen like this before) had I had my license. and the same reason why I would have fought it and gone to court: but no license means a very unlikely win.
my hard learned lesson was to ALWAYS, no matter WHAT, have my license with me. always always always. and that citations are actually tickets. and that citations are terrible, awful, horrible feeling things BUT they happen to awesome, wonderful people for stupid stupid reasons. I'm sorry; it's a terrible, horrible no-good feeling :( can you get it deferred? that way it's off your record and you just have to pay a flat fee for it (or at least that's how it is here!).
and fin with the long story.
oh girl. I'm glad I had my license, insurance and registration. Although it would have made for a much more interesting story had I not. Thanks for sharing!
DeleteCall the county/city that you got the ticket in. Sometimes, for a fee, they will waive the court appearance and keep it off your insurance record.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely going to call, I'm way to nervous for this court business!
DeleteI had to go to court for a speeding ticket once. I'm pretty sure I almost shit. my. pants.
ReplyDeleteNever again.
GREAT...something to look forward to.
DeleteHaha, I've gotten two Autumn! Both were over $200! If you pay a little extra though you will go on driving probation and it will not be told to insurance! That's a blessing at least? I'm still on probation right now.
ReplyDeleteConsequences aren't fun.
With my luck, I'll get pulled over while on probation.
DeleteOh no! I just got a speeding ticket not that long ago...I was going 35mph in a 20mph school zone! I was seriously about to cry and the cop asked me, "Is there a reason you're speeding?" I wish I could have come up with a clever answer like, "YES! I LOVE how it feels when the wind whips my hair around!"...but I just stammered and said, "No sir." haha! Good luck!!
