The Weekend We Threw a Wedding Shower For Our Best Friend

8
sorry for iPhone pictures. camera died. story of my life.

This weekend, my best friends and I threw our first wedding shower together for our sweet Kaylee. It was small and intimate, and we had a wonderful time. I cannot believe my best friend is getting married in a month.

We served a delicious brunch of Panera bagels & cream cheese, melon fruit kabobs, and a breakfast casserole. We drank lemonade and orange juice out of cute mason jars.

After that, we moved to the living room, where we played games. We used lips and mustaches to play the “Who Said This” game, which was a cute way to mix up the traditional shower game. We also played, “Guess the Spice” (because we’re domestic, ya know) and “Who Knows the Bride Best?”

Then, it was time for cupcakes and conversation.

Our favors were little bags of seasonal candy corn. A favorite for sure. 16

And then a photo shoot, of course, because this happens every time we’re together.

So anyway, the first shower was a success. By the time we’re all married off, we’ll be experts at this business. And then it will be time for baby showers.

Yikes.

so I cry at bridal showers? apparently.

engaged

Last weekend my bride-to-be best friend
had her first bridal shower!

And it sunk in that she is getting married
right as she unwrapped a cutting board.
I burst into tears.

Good tears because I’m so happy for her,
sad tears because everything changes after this.

When did we grow up?

…that dang cutting board.

Tonight

Tonight was dinner with the girls; blackened chicken salads, pita & hummus, and sweet teas all around.

DSCN2139

Tonight was talking; catching up, bashing some boys, and giggling about some boys.

DSCN2140

Tonight was me getting hit on twice; once by the guy at the register and once by some sketchy guy outside by my car. (Yes, I do have nice legs. Thanks for noticing.)

DSCN2141

Tonight was HP7.2 (that’s slang for Harry Potter 7 part 2); sitting behind a girl who texted the whole time, being afraid to open my Sour Patch Kids because it was so loud, and seeing a few guys tear up.

DSCN2142

Tonight was awesome; peanut butter shakes, free water, and long car talks.

This has got to be the good life.

I amaland yes, that last line is a OneRepublic reference.

p.s. Random picked Lyndsey as the lucky canvas winner! Thank you everyone for entering the giveaway! I’ll email you Lyndsey.

Divine Intervention: God Led Us to Dairy Queen + a 12 hour road trip.

Sunday morning we woke up early, packed up camp and picked up Katie and Morgan from their hotel.

In Alabama we dropped Kaylee off to spend the next week with her family, and Morgan stayed behind in Florida with her boyfriend.

Katie slept the whole way…

Emma drove the whole way…(with her tongue out)…

…and I pretty much whined about finding a DQ the whole way. In Memphis we accidentally missed our Exit but it turned out to be divine intervention because THERE WAS A DAIRY QUEEN!

DSCN2081

It was a long drive but God gave us some pretty things to look at:

I am so blessed that I got to take this amazing trip with my best friends!

The End.

I am Al and you weren’t tired of hearing about Florida, WERE YOU?!button

True Southern Girls

Saturday we got really adventurous.

We checked out of our hotel and set up a tent at the cutest campsite in Panama City.

Can I just say (and I can because it’s my blog) that Kaylee, Emma and I are experts at setting up a tent. We did it in about 5 minutes. Thank you Girl Scout camp.

The best part about the campsite is that it was a 5-minute walk to the beach!

That was niiice.

DSCN2025DSCN2030DSCN2038

All week we lived off of McDonald’s sweet tea. $1 for the best tea around. I think sweet tea is my favorite part of being a southerner. It’s practically put in our bottles.

DSCN2042

After laying on the beach for 4 hours (and getting pretty burnt) we stopped at the cutest surf shack for snow cones. Our chosen flavors were Cotton Candy, Blue Raspberry, and Peach.

DSCN2045

Our last supper was eaten at Sharky’s, on their back-deck overlooking the ocean.

Kaylee and I split a plate of shrimp and it was amazzzzzzing.

DSCN2051

Such tourists…

…and then we went to look at gators, because that’s what you do in Florida.

(Or so I’m told.)

DSCN2063

When we went back to camp we built a campfire (thank you again Girl Scout camp) to roast s’mores on. Instead of using Hershey’s, we used Reece’s.

I almost died, that’s how good it was.

Then Kaylee, Emma and I slept on the hard ground while Katie and Morgan stayed in a hotel.

Totally worth the experience, that’s what I say.

I am Al and now I really, really want a s’more.

Cruisin’ The Gulf

Friday we drove to the hotel we stayed at last year, lounged on their beach and swam (did cheerleading stunts) in their pool.

DSCN1923 DSCN1896 DSCN1921

After showering and getting ready (a 4-hour process, I kid you not) we went on a murder mystery dinner cruise!

It was so, so much fun!

It was a Western themed mystery and we were saloon girls. Kaylee actually won a prize! (Woo!)

DSCN1935

After we ate (delicious food!) and completed the murder mystery, the captain let us steer the boat.

DSCN1994  DSCN1936

We got to watch the sunset from the middle of the ocean. Breathtaking and amazing don’t really describe it.

 DSCN1971DSCN1985DSCN1982DSCN1984

God is truly amazing! He has given us a beautiful place to live. Can you imagine Heaven?

DSCN1972

When the cruise was over, we went back to LaVela for dancing on Ladies Night #2!

It was a great day.

I am Al and is pool-hopping illegal? If so, you never read this, capeesh?
