The Weekend We Threw a Wedding Shower For Our Best Friend

8
sorry for iPhone pictures. camera died. story of my life.

This weekend, my best friends and I threw our first wedding shower together for our sweet Kaylee. It was small and intimate, and we had a wonderful time. I cannot believe my best friend is getting married in a month.

We served a delicious brunch of Panera bagels & cream cheese, melon fruit kabobs, and a breakfast casserole. We drank lemonade and orange juice out of cute mason jars.

After that, we moved to the living room, where we played games. We used lips and mustaches to play the “Who Said This” game, which was a cute way to mix up the traditional shower game. We also played, “Guess the Spice” (because we’re domestic, ya know) and “Who Knows the Bride Best?”

Then, it was time for cupcakes and conversation.

Our favors were little bags of seasonal candy corn. A favorite for sure. 16

And then a photo shoot, of course, because this happens every time we’re together.

So anyway, the first shower was a success. By the time we’re all married off, we’ll be experts at this business. And then it will be time for baby showers.

Yikes.

so I cry at bridal showers? apparently.

engaged

Last weekend my bride-to-be best friend
had her first bridal shower!

And it sunk in that she is getting married
right as she unwrapped a cutting board.
I burst into tears.

Good tears because I’m so happy for her,
sad tears because everything changes after this.

When did we grow up?

…that dang cutting board.

My Friend Rain.

February 1995

Blonde, hazel-eyes, and four years small, I shared a room with my brother and sister. They had the bunk beds and I had my very own gold bed across the room from them, right next to the window.

I wasn't a child that was afraid of storms. Quite the opposite. I was full of sass and spunk- I can assure you that has changed. Wink wink.

Late at night when the clouds thundered I would sit up in my gold bed, pull back the curtains and watch the rain.

October 2008

17 years old found me in my junior year of high school. My alarm sounded at 7:15 and I woke up to rain and thunder.

Early morning rain is the best, I thought, and snuggled under my covers for more sleep. I was late for school every day, anyways. Why rush to get up when it's raining?

Eventually I got up, dragged a straightener through my thick hair and brushed my teeth.

And all day long I wished it would keep raining so that when I got home, I could take a nap. Really, any sleep while raining is marvelous.

August 2010

College years, almost 20-something years. I am tempted to be mad at the rain pouring down outside because it has messed up the satellite signal and I can't watch Grey's Anatomy.

But then I turned off all the lights, opened the windows and enjoyed something that makes life so beautiful. My best nature friend, Rain.

I'm thinking about a rain wedding? Would you like to come?

Southwest Wedding

This weekend

Wine bottles in the wall.

I drove to the southwest for a wedding.
It was at a vineyard in the desert.

The ceremony was under a pavilion facing the vineyard.
Afterwards we dined on prime rib, potatoes, pasta, salad, & bread.
Or chicken if that is your preference.

It was a beautiful wedding.
Here are a few pictures:

I had a great weekend seeing my family & eating authentic Filipino food. It's nice to be home though. My dorm room is still packed in boxes in my car and needs to be moved inside. Maybe tomorrow.

Now we have steaks sizzling on the grill to celebrate Mother's Day. Hope everyone had a great weekend!
